Ipsy Unbagging (July 2017)

For those of you who don’t know, Ipsy is a $10.00 per month beauty subscription service that delivers around 5 deluxe-sample sized (and sometimes full-sized) beauty products. The products span from cosmetics, to skincare, to haircare, body care, beauty accessories/tools, nail care, etc. Originally founded by Michelle Phan herself, the subscription has grown a huge subscriber base over the years and is an excellent way to broaden your horizons with makeup. It pushes you to expand beyond your comfort zone and allows you to discover new brands and products you would have never have tried in the first place. I also find that this is one of the most personalized beauty subscription services. Upon signing up, you are able to fill out a beauty profile, telling Ipsy what kinds of products you enjoy, what brands you like, and also about your hair and skin concerns.

Each month, you receive a different “glam” bag, usually correlating to the specific theme of the month. These bags are super cute and convenient for storage and/or traveling. This month’s theme was “Over-Easy,” featuring an adorable sleeping egg cartoon named Gudetama. This theme stresses the need for relaxation in the summer time.

So, without further ado, here is what I received in my July 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag:

1) BellaPierre Cosmetics Banana Setting Powder

Banana powders are all the rave right now in the beauty world! They specialize in color-correcting, camouflaging redness and dark circles on the under-eyes. This powder, despite its yellow shade, is translucent and works great on all skin tones. This powder really helps to avoid my concealer from creasing, and also gives my skin a more balanced tone. I also find that this powder is great to use on the high points of the face, specifically in spots I would normally highlight, such as my nose, cupid’s bow, cheekbones, chin, and forehead. Additionally, the size of the powder is wonderful! Definitely happy with this first product.

2) Tarte “Rainforest of the Sea” Deep Dive Cleansing Gel

I always enjoy trying out new cleansers. I believe switching up your skincare routine regularly is actually beneficial! Now, I have tried plenty of the products in Tarte’s “Rainforest of the Sea” collection, and I have really enjoyed them. This one had the same result! It has a nice fresh scent that isn’t overwhelming in the slightest. This cleansing gel is both hypoallergenic and non-drying, and completely dissolves stubborn waterproof makeup. This product is vegan, featuring some marine ingredients, such as algae and marine flower extract. I would say that this gel is ideal for those days when you don’t want to exfoliate and want something a bit more gentle on the skin. But overall I would highly recommend this product to my readers, especially to those who have more sensitive skin.

3. Ciate London Wonderwand Gel-Kohl Hybrid Liner (in Black)

It’s always nice to receive a black eyeliner in a beauty subscription, especially from brands I love and enjoy. Eyeliner is one of those products that I always find myself using up super quickly, and usually I don’t mess around with super bold colors for eyeliner. This eyeliner is nice and pigmented and decently applies on the waterline. Personally though, I would prefer to get a retractable eyeliner instead of a wood one that needs to be consistently resharpened. This eyeliner also comes with a convenient angled liner brush that is perfect for smudging out the pencil liner or for applying potted gel liners.

4. AHAVA Mineral Hand Cream

Let me start off by stating how much I love receiving hand creams in beauty subscriptions. I always find my hands super dry, no matter what season we are in. These babies are perfect to throw into your bag. This one in particular is super gentle and absorbs into the skin with ease. It doesn’t leave your hands feeling greasy or heavy. It also has an amazing fresh scent that I could never get tired of, featuring Dead-Sea minerals and witch hazel to help heal, smooth, and nourish dry skin. Thank you, Ipsy!!!

5. TreStiQue Mini Concealer Crayon (in Bisque)

This products makes for a super convenient (and cute) on-the-go, travel friendly concealer. “Bisque” is a perfect shade for those with medium skin tones, such as myself. It has a very creamy formulation, featuring a nice coconut oil infusion. This concealer really doesn’t cake or crease on me. And it is also medium-to-full coverage, so I especially enjoy this product!

That concludes my July 2017 Ipsy unbagging. As a whole, I think this was a pretty good month. I received a lot of products that are essentials and that I find myself using on a regular basis. The worst thing is when I receive products I think I am going to rarely ever use. This subscription is so worth the $10.00 you pay for it, and I would highly recommend it to my subscribers!

If you would like to subscribe to Ipsy, I’d really appreciate if you did so by clicking on my referral link! (This is totally optional, but would be highly appreciated).

My Top 5 Favorite Liquid Lipsticks!

Ahh, liquid lipsticks. They are the totally “in” trend for thousands of pouts across the globe. With their effortless wear, seamless finish, and diverse shade variations, they have easily become a part of my regular lip routine.

That being said, I have tried an entire variation of liquid lipsticks, and there are definitely some hidden gems out there that I could not recommend enough. Although I am constantly trying out new matte liquid lipsticks, these 5 are my absolute go-tos.

1. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks

These liquid lipsticks are AH-MAZING. They come in a large variety of shades, so there is something for everyone. But I especially adore the range of nude shades Kat has to offer. Being a brunette with medium olive-toned skin, bright colors aren’t my best look. That being said, I love to try out all different variations of nude shades to change up my look without choosing out some unflattering. The packaging is super adorable, and I like the long-sized doe foot applicator. It allows for easier application and better precision. The formulation is super lightweight, but that does NOT take away from the excellent pigmentation. They are creamy (not too drying on the lips), and are semi-transfer proof in my opinion. Not to mention, these delicious lippies smell like chocolate. ^_^

Some of my favorite shades from the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick collection are “Lolita II” and “Ophelia.” “Lolita II” is a beautiful terra-cotta-like shade, while “Ophelia” is a gorgeous warm pinky-nude.

These liquid lipsticks retail for $20.00 each, which is quite standard for higher-end makeup brands. I think they are totally worth the money.

2. HudaBeauty Liquid Matte Lipsticks

HudaBeauty’s brand new Liquid Matte Lipsticks definitely left me impressed. I have always loved this brand for their false lashes, so when I heard they came out with matte liquid lipsticks, I knew I had to give them a try. And I am very glad I did! The frosted glass packaging is absolutely gorgeous, and the sizing is perfect. These lipsticks also have quite a sweet chocolatey smell, but not as pleasant as the Kat Von D lipsticks. These lipsticks come in a LOT of neutral shades, and I have been using the shade “Bombshell” almost every day. It is described as being a “subtle pinkish nude.” These lipsticks are super comfortable on the lips and are super transfer-proof. I can trust this lipstick to last me on a long night out.

These lipsticks have great pigment and are super smooth. They dry down matte in a matter of seconds, and they make lipstick application a breeze. They keep your lips pretty hydrating for a lipstick with a matte formulation. I’m telling you, once you try these puppies out, it will be hard to go back. This is honestly one of the best quality liquid lipsticks I have ever tried.

3. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks

If you are looking for an amazing quality lipstick that comes in a CRAP-TON of shades (35 to be exact), look no further!! Meet the lovely ABH liquid lipsticks. If you have ever tried the lip glosses from the brand, you can only guess how wonderful the liquid lipstick formulation is. These lipsticks are also lightweight, yet pigmented. They don’t have the absolute longest wear, especially compared to the HudaBeauty lipsticks, however, they do last on your lips for a decent amount of the day.

The flat edge on the applicator really does allow for accurate, precise application. They have a delightful vanilla cupcake-type scent.

These beauties retail for $20.00 a piece as well, so choose your favorite colors wisely. Min is dolce! Is is a really pretty brighter nude-pink.

4. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks

Of all liquid lipsticks I have ever used, these are definitely the most delicious smelling. They smell like the most decadent chocolate ever, and I am totally obsessed.

These are definitely a little more pricey, retailing at $24.00 for 0.08 fl. oz, however, they are of amazing quality.

They glide onto the lips so smoothly, and have a great wear time. Stila has a lot of shades that flatter so many different skin tones, especially my own. The first shade of these I ever tried was “Patina” and I absolutely fell in love. “Patina” is labeled as a “dusty rose” color. It’s mostly pink, but has this slightly purple tinge. Other gorgeous shades from this collection include, “Firenze,” “Caramello,” and “Dolce.”

Told you I like nude shades…

5. Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipsticks

I first had the pleasure of trying out this matte liquid lipstick formulation from one of my Sephora Play subscription boxes. I instantly fell in love with the product, from it’s unique packaging to its individual formulation.

The product comes in a rectangular-shaped tube and has a nice long doe foot end with a hollow inside. The pigment on these lipsticks in NO joke! The really stay on your lips throughout the day and pack a punch. Plus, they are super creamy.

They retail for $24.00, and are definitely well worth the price. Personally, my favorite shade from Smashbox’s range is “Driver’s Seat,” which is classified as a “warm pink.” It’s the closest a pink could get to a red without actually being called red, and I am in love!!

And there you have it, my TOP 5 FAVORITE liquid lipsticks. I’m constantly looking for new formulations to ry and incorporate into my makeup routine, and I love to hear other people’s favorites for inspiration. As always, I do recommend regular exfoliation for the lips, especially by using yummy lip scrubs! LUSH Cosmetics and Jeffree Star Cosmetics sell some great lip scrubs that come in a  variety of different flavors. The castor sugar helps to rid your lips of dead skin cells, while different oils help to nourish and soften the lips. Moisturizing your lips in between liquid lipstick wears is super important. It helps the colors look vibrant on your lips and keeps everything at bay.

Remember when choosing a liquid lipstick that you want to avoid anything super drying or patchy. These five do an excellent job at giving your lips a smooth, yet matte complexion.

As always, thank you for reading and stay tuned for more blog posts to come!!! ❤

Get to Know Me Tag! (Q&A)

Get to Know Me Tag! (Q&A)

Hello, my name is Pietrina Impastato. Welcome to my first ever blog post!!!

This is all very new to me. I want to write about all kinds of things pertaining to my life and interests.

A little bit about me, I am an 19-year old nursing student from Long Island, NY. I love to sing, dance, travel, write, and help others. I have a passion for makeup, and I am a total adrenaline junkie!

I thought the best way to go about this post would be to complete a “Get to Know Me Tag,” by answering a series of questions. Feel free to reuse these questions for your own blog post!(:

1) Are you named after anyone?

Yes, indeed! I am named after my grandmother Pietrina. Super Italian, I know…

2) When was the last time you cried?

When I re-watched season 4 of Orange is the New Black!! WHY DID POUSSEY HAVE TO GO??? WHY?!?!?

3) Do you have kids?

No, I do not. I mean unless you want to count my two dogs, Scruffy and Bella. Literally my children. ❤

4) If you were another person, would you be friends with yourself?

Considering the fact that I have R.B.F (otherwise known as “resting bitch face”), I’m not really sure. I am a super easy person to talk to, I have just been told to come off as a bit intimidating.

5) Do you use sarcasm a lot?

I don’t abuse it; only like to be sarcastic when it’s fitting and not too offensive. I cannot stand overly sarcastic people.

6) What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Usually, their tone of voice. I pay close attention to voice because I have to enjoy someone’s voice to get along with them. Weird, right? I also look for their ability to hold conversation and the way in which they are dressed.

Is it just me, or is the best look on a guy a nice flannel and some jeans??

7) What is your eye color?

The darkest brown you can imagine. It’s almost like I have one giant pupil.

8) Scary movies or happy endings?

It really depends on my mood. Sometimes I don’t want everything to end with all sunshine and rainbows. But sometimes I don’t want to be waking up at 3 am frantic from nightmares.

9) Favorite smells?

I love vanilla and fruity scented perfumes. Oddly enough, I also enjoy the scent of gasoline.

10) What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home?

Probably Haiti, before the earthquake. It was beautiful.

11) Do you have any special talents?

I have been singing opera since about the age of 10. Since then I have gone on to do lots of shows and various performances. I partook in vocal lessons, and even had a Q-labeled audition with America’s Got Talent based off of my video submission in the 9th grade. Seriously, if you look up “13 year old singing opera” on Youtube, I’m one of the first videos to pop up.

I’m also really good at doing makeup.

12) Where were you born?

New York, baby!

13) What are your hobbies?

Singing, dancing, writing, traveling, shopping, baking, helping others, driving…

14) Do you have any pets?

Two dogs, Scruffy and Bella.

Scruffy is a pure-bred Yorkshire Terrier, while Bella is a “Morkie” (maltese/yorkshire terrier mix).

15) Do you have any siblings?

Yes, I have one younger brother named Alex. He’s 16.

16) What do you want to be when you grow up?

Hopefully, a nurse practitioner. But I also wouldn’t be opposed to putting that dream on hold if a performance opportunity came up.

17) Who was your first best friend?

Noelle, she is my womb-mate.

18) How tall are you?

5’8″ (Tall for a girl, I know).

19) Favorite school memory?

Shows and field trips. Oh and prom was pretty fun as well.

20) How many countries have you visited?

Certainly not as many as I would like. Most of may traveling is domestic, however, I have been to Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Haiti, and many of islands in the Caribbean. I would love to go to Europe one day.

21) What was your favorite/worst subject in high school?

My favorite subject was either English or science; it really depended on the course material. I also loved chorus.

My least favorite subject was definitely math. Math and I just don’t get along. Like, sure basic math is never an issue. But when you get into the hardcore stuff, my mind just wonders off to Guam.

I’m gonna be a great nurse. :’)

22) What is your favorite drink? Animal? Perfume?

-Favorite drink (non-alcoholic): Shirley temple.

-Favorite drink (alcoholic): Cranberry vodka, tequila sunrise, mint mojito.

-Favorite animal: Lion.

-Favorite Perfume: Marc Jacobs Daisy.

23) What would you name your children?

This has always been quite trivial to me for a couple of reasons. First off, it is the Italian tradition to name the children after the parents. However, I feel like I wouldn’t want o follow that. Also, I’m not even sure at this point of my life if I want children.

I have always really liked the name Phoenix for a girl, and Austin for a boy.

24) What sports do you play/have you played?

I love any kind of net and racket sort, such as tennis and badminton. I used to do taekwondo for two years. I really enjoyed that. I worked my way up to a purple tip belt and then stopped because theatre took over all my free time. I also tried cross country out in middle school and absolutely hated it.

I’ll always remember this one race we had to do at the park. It was torrentially down-pouring, yet they refused to cancel the event. So halfway through the race, I had my mom pick me and a few friends up and she dropped us off at the finish line. I came in 13th place for that race. Was it deserved? Nope.

Suck on that, coach.

25) Who are some of your favorite YouTubers?

-Shane Dawson

-Jeffree Star

-Manny MUA

-Kathleen Lights

-Madison Miller

There are plenty of others, but those are the ones I watch on a regular basis.

26) How many boyfriends have you had?

I have had two serious boyfriends, and three not so serious. And those are just the people I dated. I have had a “thing” with guys before, but it never amounted to much. Currently I am happily enjoying the single life and am having fun! I mean, what a better time to do that than when you’re young?

27) Favorite memory from childhood?

Fishing. My dad and I used to go fishing and it was one of my favorite things in the whole world. So serene and peaceful. Not only did I enjoy the rush I got when catching something, but I loved how close my dad and I were when I was little. It’s not like that so much anymore.

28) How would you describe your fashion sense?

I honestly don’t have one type of distinct fashion sense. I dress pretty casually, but sometimes I will make a statement with a certain piece: whether it be tribal-printed leggings, golden head chains, unique shoes, or anything tribal/indian-like. I’m not Indian by any means, but I really admire the way they look at fashion. As I have grown older, I have definitely gotten into girly pieces, such as rompers and maxi dresses.

29) What phone do you have?

Iphone. And if anyone wants to attempt to convince me that Androids are better, they’ll be wasting their time.

30) What is one bad habit of yours?

Procrastination…at its finest. When I put my mind to something, I am an overachiever. It’s finding the motivation to do so that is a struggle.

Well, there you have it. If anyone made it all the way down to this part of the blog post, good job! You get a cookie!

I hope to write about all different types of things. Hopefully you find at least one of my topics interesting! Stay tuned for more to come! (:
